For years, I was riveted to watching Grey’s Anatomy every Thursday night no matter how late Channel Seven shows it. Believe me, the number of times they change timeslots can do your head in. Beneath all the medical trauma and drama of Grey’s, the core element that I love in this show is the friendship between the characters of Meredith and Cristina. Theirs is a relationship that transcends consciousness. They’re Yin to each others Yang. They complete each other’s sentences. Heck, they often talk in parallel conversations. When one talks about what bothered her that day, the other talks about her own day. There is no obligation to even listen to the other. Just having someone to be with was enough for them. They are both so needy of each other yet so completely whole on their own. If you know what I mean. No? Oh bummer! Read on…
Here’s a typical conversation between Grey’s Anatomy’s Meredith and Cristina (source Wikipedia) ~
Cristina: The clinic has a policy. They wouldn’t let me confirm my appointment unless I designated an emergency contact person. Someone to be there in case and…to help me home after. Anyway I put your name down, that’s why I told you I’m pregnant. You’re my person.
Meredith: I am?
Cristina: Yeah, you are. Whatever.
Meredith: Whatever.
Cristina: He dumped me.[Meredith hugs Cristina] You realize this constitutes hugging?
Meredith: Shut up, I’m your person.
