This is not a spoiler. I just want to share the characters and scenes of Harry Potter – Deathly Hallows Part 1 that moved me. I hope that when you watch the movie you will hopefully look for the things I “saw”. And for those who already saw it, well, did you have the same experience as I did?
I think that I had a greater appreciation of this movie because I read the books. A moviegoer who has not read the books will probably not enjoy it as much. There are no references made to events in the previous movies. It is assumed that the audience have seen them all.
This seventh installment is about Harry and his friends’ journey of finding Voldemort’s horcruxes. It is about losing friends one by one to the Dark Lord’s army. It’s tone is dark. Some might say that the pace is slow, but I call it measured and introspective. The gray deserted landscapes are bleak and stark yet exactly how I imagined it in the book. There are unhurried character close ups which I find quite mesmerizing.
An opening scene at He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named’s assembly of the Death Eaters is disturbing. I asked the kids to cover their eyes, I didn’t want anyone having bad dreams that night.
The things I loved about Harry Potter Movie #7
Ralph Fiennes’ Voldemort has always been my favorite. Perhaps because I like the actor. Here, he is as sinister as ever.
Helena Bonham Carter’s Bellatrix is insane! Her work as an actress is many and varied. I am a fan of her Red Queen and Bellatrix Lestrange.
Bill Nighy’s Rufus Scrimgeour is simply brilliant. He is “Davy Jones” of the Pirates movies and “Viktor” of the Underworld movies.
Rupert Grint’s Ron Weasley is naturally funny and sulky at the same time.
The elves’ Kreacher and Dobby are fascinating to watch.
And of course I am in love with Emma Watson’s Hermione Granger.
Obliviate!
