Note to new readers: This post is part of my 30 Days of Writing Practice. I am allowing blocks of 10, 20 or 30 minutes of my day solely to putting my swirling thoughts on paper. No going back to edit which will only serve to stop the stream of consciousness. My writing buddy Kat and I (Wruddy for short), we call it writing from the heart. Please read my introduction for the full story.
Warning: What you are about to read is self indulgent to the max. But if you got this far, clicked my links, then I’ve got you hooked anyway. So lets dance to Irreverence 101!
@chiqui_pineda and @myGloryBox met in Instagram (IG), maybe 12 months ago. The usual flurry of friendly banter (Comments) and Likes were exchanged.
One day @myGloryBox posted this shot. It’s a snapshot of the gift items that @myGloryBox was shipping to her very close friend Khaleesi, up over. @chiqui_pineda had an Aha! moment. Seeing the common affection for Jonathan Livingston Seagull (JLS from here on), the idea of taking on @myGloryBox for a writing buddy was hatched. @chiqui_pineda decided to browse the myGloryBox website to check out @myGloryBox’s writing style and to look for other “connections”. @chiqui_pineda decided that @myGloryBox was worthy and popped the writing buddyship proposal to @myGloryBox. The latter was interested and proceeded to also check out @chiqui_pineda’s blog site. @myGloryBox accepted the proposal. At this stage, @myGloryBox had no clue about the singer behind @chiqui_pineda.
A few connections that I can gather – both migrant moms, both Bisaya, both a product of U.P., both fitness newbie buffs, both into green smoothies, both readers, both writers, both JLS and The Little Prince (TLP) fans. What else, Chiqui-Kat? Ah. I had to be oblivious to the Chiqui Pineda brand. Else it would certainly colour my writing. The space and time between us (Chiqui-Kat lives up over in Toronto, I live down under in Sydney) give us bubble wrap protection. I don’t think this partnership will work if one lived down the street or if we saw each other regularly as normal friends would. It will be all kinds of awkward and weird.
Of course, before I accepted Chiqui’s Wruddy proposal I had to do my own research using my friend Google. Mr Google tells me that Chiqui had a hit single titled “How Did You Know” released in 1996. Was I fazed? Not really. You see, the radio station I listened to back then did not play her song. Then Chiqui sends me the “Rama and Sita” YouTube clip. That video staggered me big time. The live stage performance had more impact on me. I have never communicated with an artist in the past. I’ve never met any artist! And to pour my heart out to? Unnerving really, and all kinds of bewilderment. I felt quite undeserving of her time and attention. Chiqui however calmed me down with her words. She always does. Words are all we have. And here we are. We are now on Day 49. The plan is to practice writing for 365 Days.
That’s the Wruddy connection.
