Gab (11 year old kid): Mum, I hate rockmelons.
Mum: Gab, please do not use the word ‘hate’ lightly. Especially on food. Never say ‘I hate this food’ because a lot of kids have nothing to eat.
Gab: But, mum, I really don’t like it.
Mum: Well then say ‘I don’t like rockmelons’ or ‘I am not a big fan of Maths’ or ‘I’m not into footy’. Hate is a very strong word, reserve it for very strong issues.
Because when you say ‘I hate tests’ or even ‘I’m not good in Maths’, the more you say it the more you believe it and the more it will become your reality!
Mmm, I hope he gets my New Age talk.
