So there I was in the midst of packing yet another term of lunch boxes. “I am afraid lunch boxes are here to stay for yet another 10 weeks, Charina. Bear it and get on with it.”
This is what I tell myself these days.
“Just get on with it!”
Hey, this blog is not about Game of Thrones, yet it is… “How’s that?” you ask.
Well I finally finished Book 3 of GoT. For those of you who know, I started opening this book, many many months ago. Then I dropped it and moved to other things. I think it’s time to ‘fess up. I have too many things going on in my life. Many things that I am passionate about. And despite my resolve not to, other things (that I am also passionate about) will get dropped on the wayside. My #TwelveBooks challenge is one of them. I read 13 books last year (the first year of my challenge). For 2013, I just finished a dismal 5 books. With 3 months to go, there is much catching up to do. But I am not giving up because I have been reading 3 books simultaneously for the past 6 months! The Catcher in the Rye, I Quit Sugar, and Bird by Bird are all by my bedside getting its turn at night! Speed up Cha!!!
2013 was my banner year for blogging, without a doubt keeping me occupied most of my spare time. And thrown into the mix is the running and the working out. What was put on the sideline? Reading, gardening, investing, playing the guitar… the list is long.
Let’s go back to GoT Book 3. Was it any good? What is my rating? I finished the final half of the book in Japan. And to be honest I don’t remember enough of it to say whether I liked it or not. This means it did not have an impact on me. I think having seen HBO Series 3 spoiled the fun. Oh another thing, I broke my self-imposed rule of “Read the book first, then watch the corresponding season later“. Rules (self imposed or not) are there for a reason. So I must get back to that. I am a big fan of GoT. So of course I will keep reading. When I love something, I don’t let go that easily.
On to GoT Book 4 then! Perhaps in January…
2013 Book #5: A Storm of Swords | 1: Steel and Snow (September) – Shelf it (just because I am a fan).
How I rate the Twelve Books:
Pass it – not worth your precious time
Borrow it – worthwhile reading but don’t buy it
Shelf it – worthy of a space in your bookcase
Gift it – it is so good, you want to share it
