Day 2, Saturday
Ride. Just Ride It.
In keeping with my resolve to make this Hunter Valley trip different from previous visits, we did something we have never done before. We took to biking around vineyards. We did not bring our own bikes (Note to self: Bring own bikes for next time). Instead, we rented a tandem bike (for Ariel and Kuya Migo) and two bikes for myself and Gab. The cost? It’s $20 for 2 hours per person or $25 for the whole day. It was a no-brainer kind of deal if you ask me. The dudes at Grapemobile were ever so helpful and instructions as comprehensive as one can get. I highly recommend this bike hire shop!
Why is the last leg of anything so painful? Such as a foot race for example. In our case, the last 500 meters. Eh kasi pagod na ano? The body and the mind are tired. Especially the legs, oh the pain! Only the heart persists. And that’s what separates the successful and the champions and the legends. Endurance. The sheer grit to reach the finish line. For us, it was the sheer will to reach the bike hire shop after 1.5 hours of pedalling between 5 vineyards. With a much needed lake view pit stop for 20 minutes. To enjoy an exquisite morning tea of bread and jam and cheese and fizzy drinks. Plus more M&Ms. Ready to ride out for more pain.
Will we do it again? You bet we will. Because memories are made like this. Despite the pain, the sweetness of exertion/exercise and being active more than make up for it. Migo enjoyed it, and that makes it all worthwhile. We visited a total of 5 cellars. No we did not wine-taste, we just enjoyed the sweeping vistas. This could very well be the highlight of this getaway. What with my crazy fearless on-bike videos. I was lucky I did not drop my iphone.
Here is my kamikaze on-bike video. Plus a kangaroo sighting at Accor’s The Vintage Golf Club.
