Note to new readers: This post is part of my 30 Days of Writing Practice. I am allowing blocks of 10, 20 or 30 minutes of my day solely to putting my swirling thoughts on paper. No going back to edit which will only serve to stop the stream of consciousness. My writing buddy Kat and I (Wruddy for short), we call it writing from the heart. Please read my introduction for the full story.
I fall in love everyday.
Sabi nga ni Michael Jackson kay Paul McCartney in the song “The Girl Is Mine” – “I’m a lover, not a fighter“. But since some folks have rather strong opinions about the term “falling in love” such that it should only be used exclusively referring to a partner, I shall use a tamer word. I decide on “crush”. I have crushes every day. And this is not exclusive to a person. Hear this:
– Someone sang “Fast Car” in The Voice AU the other night. So I went to YouTube and played Tracy Chapman over and over and over again. I was in love with the song.
– When I hear Sting sing “Fortress Around Your Heart”, I marvel at the very poetic lyrics. I Google it. I take a screenshot of the lyrics. I put the song in loop for one day and I celebrate the lyrics. Because it’s beautiful.
– I see an image somewhere of a beautiful woman, and I stare at it. For sometime. I share it on FB maybe. Or Instagram. I want people to see what I see. And usually they don’t. I Whatsapp it to a close friend and wait, wait for their reaction. When I get a reaction I want, I get such a buzz.
Here is one such image.
What do I love about this photo? The orange bike with the white tyres (I want one), the boots, the model’s long long legs, her smile, her happiness, such inner joy. The wall with plaster coming off. Can you also see the ancient couch? Maybe some of you like her large ring. I love her… clavicle. That means collar bone. I like her collar bones. Strange huh? That’s me. Welcome to Cha’s mind.
– I read Jonathan Livingston Seagull recently and I marked the lines I loved. I’m going to share it to the world. Share one or two passages I absolutely connected to. Because I just have to. I need people to tell me, “Yes Cha, I get you”. And “Wow, I like what you like”. That makes me happy. It would seem that I need an audience for my “jibber jabber”!
– I love watching The Big Bang Theory. The bloke and the two boys, we sit in front of the TV and watch The Big Bang reruns. I’ve downloaded (shhh don’t tell) 5 or 6 seasons and we watch reruns when we go on holidays. And hear this, we always have subtitles on. Not because we don’t understand what they’re saying but because we relish every joke, every line, every nuance. I think Gabo has learned to read fast because subtitles tend to run fast. None of my current friends watch The Big Bang as much as we do. Some may have seen one or two episodes. And when we talk about it, they seem not as amused at the jokes as I am! But there is this workmate of mine. Let’s call her Moonpie (because she is such a darling). She’s quite young, smart, and a pretty engineer. Let me take a moment to describe Moonpie. She is sassy, sultry, and dusky. Her youthful energy infuses me with lightness and perkiness (is that a word?). We say we miss each other when I wfh (work from home) and we “poke” a lot. The other day, she sent me an FB message. She goes, “Charina, poke me back so I can poke you!” This inanity tickles me pink. You see, my/our pokes are never meaningless. I’m saying “Hey, how are you? I’m thinking of you right now.” I message her not to pine for me when I am not around, and add what “pine” means because she wouldn’t know. She goes, “Where the bloody hell do you get your words, Charina?” I go, “I read the Thesaurus from cover to cover in high school, missy!” “Who does that?!” she says. And I reply, “Er, me?!” It’s high school all over again when we talk. Moonpie is the only person I’ve met who loves Sheldon Cooper as much as I do. We recite lines from the show! “Do you think we are like hippies in a love-in?” Lines like that make us happy. She probably knows more lines than I do. Which I love because that means she’s a bigger fan. “What is life without whimsy?” I have a crush on that line.
So, my darlings. If I have a crush on you, don’t be bothered nor bewildered. It is simply your energy, your spirit, your mind, or your heart that I love. I probably use your energy as a source to re-charge my batteries. To keep me going, so to speak. Hence, I will tell you I love you from time to time. Because you are important to me. You are a valuable peep. I’ll give you my complete sentence. I take back what I said in Day 13. (For those who have not read Day 13, go ahead and click here). You don’t have to love me back. That’s just too presumptuous of me. And that’s my truth, today at least.
What do I write next tomorrow? Bahala na si Batman!
All the best,
ChaR-g

Yesterday, I stumbled onto Sia’s Breathe Me (massive song crush) via my Wruddy (short for writing buddy). Wruddy aka Chiqui*Kat is a great influence in my life right now. So to honor both artists, Sia and Chiqui*Kat, I share here.
